Getting a Tattoo

Getting a tattoo done is a big deal - the work you have here will be permanent (unless you opt for a temporary tattoo) so it's important to make sure that you make the right decisions here. This isn't something that you should rush into.

Some people know what kind of tattoo they want done first whilst others haven't made up their minds by the time they first talk to a tattooist. Getting the right tattooist is vital here. You want someone who is experienced enough to do the work well and who sticks to all of the relevant hygiene rules and regulations.

It is important therefore to talk to a few tattooists if you can before you make your final decision and to ask them questions about how they work, how long the tattoo will take and how much it will cost. Don't think that you need to know exactly what you want before you talk to a tattooist as they'll have books of examples you can look at. And, of course, a good tattooist will be able to design an individual tattoo for you if you prefer.

You need to make sure that the tattooist that you choose pays close attention to hygiene. Check that he/she wears gloves and that they sterilise and use fresh needles and inks as appropriate.
